Silver Drive Project Completed, Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Trail Features

Thursday, November 10 at 10 a.m.

Silver Drive, just north of Silver Lake Road, Traverse City

Traverse City, MI— The Grand Vision-inspired Silver Drive connecting road is now complete and available as access to the Grand Traverse Commons from Silver Lake Road.

Supporting partners will host a ribbon-cutting for the new road and the non-motorized Buffalo Trail parallel to it on November 10 at 10:00 a.m. After a brief ceremony attendees are invited to walk the new trail.

The City of Traverse City completed the project on schedule on October 28, said Tim Lodge, P.E., city engineer. The new boulevard style road and non-motorized pathway on the west side of the road connect to the businesses within the Grand Traverse Commons.

The project is part of The Grand Vision Transportation Network’s collaboration with the City of Traverse City and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

"This project is an excellent example of many community partners coming together to complete a very important project that will affect many organizations,” said Grand Vision Transportation Network Convener and Traverse Area Land Use Study (TALUS) director Matt Skeels.

“My hat is off to the City of Traverse City, Garfield Charter Township, the recreation authority and the Michigan Department of Transportation on making this project happen,” said Skeels.

Funding for the project included support from the City of Traverse City, Charter Township of Garfield, Traverse City and Garfield Township Recreational Authority, Grand Vision implementation funds through the Traverse Area Land Use Study (TC-TALUS), Munson Medical Center, Traverse City Light and Power, Traverse City Track Club, TART Trails, and individual and family donations.

The ribbon cutting and reception will begin at 10 a.m. at Pine Rest Traverse City Clinic, 1050 Silver Drive, Traverse City.
