Leelanau Clean Water Workshop

Pearl LakeThe Grand Vision Natural Resources Guiding Principle is to protect, preserve, and restore the water resources, forests, natural areas, and scenic beauty of the region.

This Thursday (April 22), there will be a clean water workshop in Leelanau county.

It starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Leelanau School in Glen Arbor. Today (4/20) is the deadline to register. Call Kristin Smith, Leelanau County Planning Department at 231/256-9812.

There is a $25 fee which includes a lunch provided by Chef Jim Bristol.

The program, according to the Glen Lake Association Website:

"Intro – What is Leelanau Clean Water?

"Greenbelting/Naturalizing Shorelines by Sarah U’Ren

"Discussion includes: Lakescape Design, Plant Species Selection, Erosion Control, Sale of Lakefront Property, Filtering the View, Dealing with Neighbors, Self Monitoring Your Water Quality

"Invasive Species the Big Threat by Sarah Litch, former Glen Lake Association President and Chair of Leelanau County Clean Water

"Discussion includes Stewardship, best practices for local businesses and townships to control and lessen the threat of invasive species to the economic base of our area.

"Nutrient Loading & Fertilizers by Rob Karner, Glen Lake Association watershed biologist

"Topics include soil testing, lake water irrigation, best fertilizers, composting and regular septic maintenance. Wrap Up includes Q & A, Door Prizes, Campus Tour (optional), certificates, and credits"
