Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear DunesIf you are in the market for energy efficient appliances, a rebate program starts nationwide in February.

The Cadillac Evening News has this story:

"Local appliance retailers say they have yet to be briefed on program details, but some information is available from a document the State of Michigan submitted to the federal government outlining how it expects to implement the plan.

"The Department of Energy is making $300 million available nationwide for the energy-efficient appliance rebate program. "Rebates are expected to be available on a model-by-model basis. Certain refrigerators will qualify for either a $50 or $100 rebate, depending on efficiency. Dishwashers will qualify for $25 to $50. Purchases of certain propane furnaces will bring a $300 rebate, with $100 rebates available for propane water heaters. Rebates of $300 will be available for some oil furnaces, while certain solar water heaters will qualify for rebates of 20 percent of the purchase price, with a maximum limit of $1,200."
