TCLP Seeking New Energy Sources

The State of Michigan plans to have 10 percent of its energy generated by alternative power by 2015. Traverse City Light and Power has a goal of 30 percent by 2020.

How? Cultivating a stronger commitment to new energy sources.

From biofuelswatch.com:

Ed Rice, executive director of Light & Power talked about the similarity in pricing over biomass and natural gas and also their pros and cons. It seems the pricing for natural gas can be unpredictable as there are limits in its supply as it being a fossil fuel whereas biomass is a renewable source.

Jim Carruthers, a Traverse City commissioner board member spoke about their interest in production of their own source of energy as buying it off the market would make them susceptible towards price changes. They were yet to decide as to which source they would be planning to use to generate energy.

And TV 7&4 has this news brief on a planned Chamber Connection episode as:

Two representatives with Traverse City Light and Power will meet with the Traverse City Area Chamber to discuss the "Energy Smart Incentives Rewards" program, and the efforts made by the community-owned utility to meet upcoming state mandates for renewable energy.
