Wind Farm Expanding, Selling power to TCLP

stoney-corners-wind-farmThe Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that:

Traverse City's Heritage Sustainable Energy is expanding its Stoney Corners Wind Farm in Missaukee County, and negotiating with Traverse City Light & Power to sell up to 10 megawatts of wind power. That's on the heels of a multi-million dollar pact to sell power to Detroit Edison. Wind farm developers said the project thus far has exceeded their expectations. "That site has proven to be a more-than-adequate location to develop a commercial wind project," said Rick Wilson, who manages the project. "We're confident to the point where we're taking some additional risks."

While the project itself is not in the Grand Vision's 6 county region, power will be flowing here. It's also an excellent example of a company in the region taking advantage of the potential of wind power.

great more eye sores that create little jobs, ruin landscapes, and supplemet energy,

Great. A clean energy vehicle that creates jobs and supplements dirty dangerous coal without environmental damage or pollution!

  3. 10 or more miles from land and wind turbines are largely invisible yet they produce more power (and money) than ones located closer to land. That's because Lake Michigan is one of the richest wind places in the world. (see google images of "wind maps michigan")

Wind technicians are also high wage jobs that cannot be outsourced. Wind is a local fuel, does not fund terrorism or require environmental destruction to drill. It's as cheap as coal.

Wind power can also recharge electric cars and plug-in hybrids like the Detroit made Chevy Volt for the equivalent of $1 a gallon.
